Colin Firth is a lucky man…

Dear Colin,

You know how I like to admire you from afar? that is as far as I will go. I don’t quite know what I would say if I met you, then again, I don’t think I will ever meet you,  I would much rather write you letters. So, do you want to know why I think you’re lucky – I am certain you know, but I would just like to say I don’t think people should keep referring to Livia as Colin Firth’s wife. She is of course, er, your wife that is, but she is more than just an Oscar-winning actor’s spouse. Not that it matters to her, I think she has a gorgeous personality and I follow her blog at Vogue, so I am learning as much as I can about putting different fabric styles together and about finding affordable and sustainable material,  – when, let’s face it, there isn’t much that is affordable these days. I also  love that she is educating all of us on the fact that up-cycled fashion is as beautiful, if not( sometimes)  more beautiful than regular couture.

Just the fact that she transformed your moth-eaten suit into something spectacular and that she came up with so many beautiful dresses for all of your red carpet appearances with the help of her design friends throughout this 2011 green carpet challenge is a truly amazing feat. To be honest, I felt like she took some incredible fashion risks and it paid off. She looked heavenly – um, no, I don’t have a crush on her, I just think she is stunning and earthy and simple and kind. I know together you do much for charities such as Oxfam, and she has in her store many fair trade and sustainable products that not only support small communities, but benefit them and the earth all at the same time. I am amazed by how down to earth you both are. Oh and by the way, I loved your write-up about being a man who likes his gadgets way too much – and by that I mean… ones that are made by apple. I found it so funny that you are taken to task at home for not using sustainable and energy-saving material, oh and I love that in spite of your self-confessed love of technology you do not have a new t.v.- hooray- I don’t know why I’m saying hooray, I finally gave in and got us a bigger t.v. last year should I be ashamed?  we still have a much older version though – one new, one old, that’s not too bad is it?

So I really just wanted to congratulate Livia on her new sustainable fashion line  with ‘yooxygen’ and for wanting to design some wonderful party dresses not just for the fabulously skinny, but for all body types. It’s remarkable that you can be fashionable and conscientious at the same time, um, I really hope it is affordable as well. Could you pass on my message to her? Thank you, you are lovely.

  1. They do make a beautiful couple. They look so elegant together. But you are a more noble woman than I because you embrace them both as a couple. Whereas, I have a little bit of jealousy in me. I know it’s irrational, but I wish I’d met him 1st. You mentioned a write up that Colin did. Do you have a link to that or a link to Livia’s blog? Thanks for another great post about the Firth’s.

    1. Ha! Ha! I love it, a little jealousy is good, that’s what makes it so exciting… Livia is married to one of the most yummiest men on earth. I didn’t consider Livia at all until I started following her blog and then I was like she’s so lovely, I liked her immediately. She has got to be the most secure woman there is 🙂

Livia is so beautiful and obviously has a life of her own that she never comes across as just another trophy wife.
And now that I’ve given her some of the compliments she deserves, will you lead us to Colin’s write-up? Hahaha. I think I’ll savor anything that man writes. 🙂
